Dear Mr. Chan,
Thank you for your interest in the Cadet Pilot Programme.
According to the guidelines from our medical officer, good vision is necessary to fulfill the duties of a pilot. Corrective lenses eg. spectacles or contact lenses are acceptable and an applicant whose vision, with the use of corrective lenses, can be corrected to the acceptable vision standards for a pilot's licence will be medically fit.
It is necessary to point out that refractive eye surgery eg. LASIK, is not recommended by Cathay Pacific Airways as a mean of correcting vision for purposes of holding a pilot’s licence, because as with all medical procedures, there are potential postoperative complications which may affect the vision standard and therefore make the applicant medically unfit.
